Teen innovator creates AI-powered wearables

At just 16, Ashwat Prasanna, a student of The International School Bangalore (TISB), is reshaping accessibility with a groundbreaking invention. His creation, EyeSight, is a lightweight, AI-powered wearable that promises real-world independence for India’s visually impaired community - at an affordable cos. Ashwat has designed EyeSight to read printed and handwritten text, identify objects and currency, and guide users through both indoor and outdoor spaces.EyeSight is a lightweight, AI-powered device built into a pair of glasses that helps visually impaired users. It has a small camera mounted on the frame that captures everything in front of the wearer. This visual information is sent wirelessly to the user’s smartphone, which acts as the device’s brain.

The phone runs a smart software that can recognize objects like people, chairs, doors, or even signs and books in real-time.

When an object is detected, tiny vibration motors on the glasses buzz in the direction of the object - helping the user sense where it is without needing any sound or instructions.Despite the accolades, Ashwat remains focused on accessibility and equity. By keeping hardware costs low and leveraging smartphone-based AI processing, EyeSight stays affordable while delivering high-tech functionality.
