Teen killed, friend hurt as spat turns violent

Chandigarh: Another teenager was killed in a violent clash in the Tricity. This time, the victim was an 18-year-old youth who was attacked with swords and knives on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

His friend was seriously injured in the attack, which took place in a dilapidated building near Nayagaon on the outskirts of Mohali.The murder victim is Karan, a resident of Khuda Ali Sher, Chandigarh, while the injured youth, Harpreet Singh, is undergoing treatment at the PGI Trauma Centre in Chandigarh. Karan was dead by the time he was taken to hospital while Harpreet is in critical condition.Sources said several youths frequently gathered at the abandoned building near the Nayagaon bridge.

According to local residents, it was the preferred haunt of drug users. On Thursday night, a group of youths had an argument, which escalated into violence. Karan and Harpreet were attacked with knives and swords during the attack.Karan’s brother told the police that he left home on Thursday evening but did not return. Family members tried to call but his phone went unanswered. Later, they were informed that Karan and another youth had been found injured and bleeding profusely near Nayagaon.

The family rushed both victims to PGI but Karan could not survive.A team from Nayagaon police station reached the spot and launched an investigation. They examined the crime scene and collected evidence.Station house officer (SHO), inspector Shivdeep Brar said police have detained several suspects for questioning. Efforts are underway to ascertain the sequence of events and identify those involved in the attack.
