Patna: Former Bihar minister and Janshakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav on Tuesday lodged an FIR against his personal assistant, Motilal Rai, alleging theft of Rs20 lakh in cash and valuables from his official residence at 42, Hardinge Road.Police have launched an investigation into the alleged theft. No arrests have been made so far.According to the FIR lodged at the Sachivalay police station, cash amounting to Rs20 lakh, kept for party funds, was found missing from a cupboard at Tej Pratap’s official residence around midnight on June 22. A gold chain and ring, four pen drives, two hard disks, an iPad, a MacBook, a laptop and four iPhone handsets were also reported missing.Sachivalaya SHO Gautam Kumar said, “The complaint has been received. We are investigating the matter. The accused has been summoned and will be questioned after he reaches the police station.”Meanwhile, in a counter-complaint, Motilal’s wife, Preeti Bharti, approached Agamkuan police station, claiming that her husband was with Tej Pratap till 8pm on Monday and had even made a video call to her using Tej Pratap’s phone.
“My husband is being framed. I fear he may not even be alive,” she alleged in her complaint.Preeti further alleged that Tej Pratap’s driver, Anil Yadav, and some others visited her house posing as ED and CBI officials. They allegedly claimed that a raid was underway and demanded documents related to Tej Pratap. She said they locked her in a room and pressured her to hand over the papers. She has submitted CCTV footage of the incident to the police.According to Preeti, Motilal had been staying at Tej Pratap’s residence for the past four days. She said she repeatedly tried calling him, but his phone remained unreachable. On Monday night, he allegedly called her from Tej Pratap’s number and told her that his phone was with “bhaiya”. During the call, Tej Pratap allegedly remarked, “Many people are after us.”Preeti said she urged her husband to return home immediately and not go back until all pending issues were resolved. She alleged that Tej Pratap may have overheard the conversation and, realising that Motilal would not return, falsely implicated him in the theft case.Police have registered both complaints and are investigating the allegations. Motilal’s whereabouts remain unknown, and Preeti has urged authorities to trace him.
