Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday formally assumed charge as the Working President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), following his appointment during a recent party meeting in Patna. His elevation is being seen as a major generational shift within the party, with Tejashwi outlining an aggressive political strategy focused on strengthening the organisation at the booth level, expanding RJD’s national footprint, mobilising youth support, and countering the NDA government.
After taking charge, Tejashwi addressed party leaders and workers in the Bihar capital, delivering an emotionally charged and confrontational speech that laid out his priorities and political roadmap.
'OUR POLITICAL FOETICIDE WAS ATTEMPTED'
Recalling the cases filed against him at a young age, Tejashwi alleged he was targeted even before his political career began.
“They tried to finish me even before I started. Our political foeticide was attempted. When I didn’t even have a moustache, CBI and ED cases were filed against me. My only fault was that in 2017, Nitish Kumar wanted to go with the BJP,” he said.
He accused the ruling dispensation of attempting to silence the opposition through intimidation and legal pressure.
BOOTH-LEVEL STRENGHENING, STATEWIDE TOUR AFTER HOLI
Calling his new position a responsibility rather than a designation, Tejashwi said he aims to fulfil RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s dream by rebuilding the party from the grassroots.
“I want to strengthen the organisation right down to the booth level. My dream is to make the RJD a national party once again,” he said, announcing that he would tour Bihar after Holi to energise party workers and reinforce the organisation.
'FEAR HAS BECOME A GOVERNANCE MODEL'
Launching a sharp attack on the NDA government, Tejashwi accused it of ruling Bihar through fear and suppression.
“The NDA government is establishing a fear regime. Today, democracy and the Constitution are being destroyed. The opposition is being suppressed, framed and threatened,” he said.
He further claimed that the people were deprived of their mandate in the last Bihar election.
“In the Bihar election, the people lost and the system won. But we are neither afraid nor willing to bow,” he said.
NITISH KUMAR IS OFFICERS' CHIEF MINISTER'
Targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi alleged that he no longer represents political leadership.
“Nitish Kumar will remain the officers’ Chief Minister. He cannot be a leader. If there is any real leader in Bihar, it is Lalu Prasad,” he said, adding that NDA leaders were engaged in constant personal attacks against RJD leadership.
'GOVERNMENT FORMED THROUGH CONSPIRACY'
Tejashwi also alleged that the present Bihar government was formed through political manipulation and urged party workers to respond strongly against any harassment.
“If anyone abuses us now, I want to tell my leaders and workers — do not remain silent anymore,” he said, adding that Lalu Prasad continues to command public support.
Tejashwi’s speech signalled a renewed push to consolidate the RJD’s base, sharpen its opposition politics, and prepare for upcoming political battles in Bihar.
