Hotels and restaurants across Telangana may face temporary closures if restrictions on the supply of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders continue, the Telangana State Hotels Association (TSHA) has warned, urging the State government to ease the curbs affecting kitchen operations in the hospitality sector.

In a representation submitted to Food and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday, the association said the ongoing supply restrictions have created serious operational difficulties for hotels and restaurants, which rely on commercial LPG for daily cooking activities.

“If the situation persists, it could lead to temporary shutdowns of establishments, unemployment among workers and disruption of food services for a large number of people who depend on eateries for their daily meals,” they said.

TSHA said hotels and restaurants play a significant role in Telangana’s tourism, hospitality and service industries. Apart from catering to travellers and tourists, these establishments provide affordable cooked food to thousands of workers, employees, students and migrant labourers who depend on them on a daily basis. The association added that many staff members working in hotels and restaurants also rely on the kitchen facilities at their workplaces for their daily meals.

TSHA has urged the State government to treat hotels and restaurants as essential service establishments and ensure adequate and uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG cylinders to the sector.
