The Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGiCCC) on Thursday hosted an orientation session for Joint Action Teams (JATs) as part of the State government’s efforts to strengthen monsoon preparedness and disaster response.
Officials said 913 waterlogging points have been identified across the three commissionerates, including 523 in Hyderabad, 202 in Cyberabad and 188 in Malkajgiri. Of these, 258 have been categorised as major, 290 as medium and 365 as minor vulnerable locations. These locations will be monitored continuously to enable timely alerts and prioritised field response.
The programme, held at the TGiCCC auditorium, was attended by officials from the police commissionerates and municipal corporations of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri, along with representatives from HYDRAA, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, TGSPDCL, Fire Services, the State Disaster Response Force, the National Disaster Response Force, the India Meteorological Department, the Medical and Health Department, the Irrigation Department, the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation, the Telangana Public Distribution System and the collectorates of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts.
According to TGiCCC, the Joint Action Teams have been constituted as an integrated multi-agency mechanism to ensure coordinated action during monsoon-related emergencies, with the command and control centre serving as the central hub for round-the-clock monitoring, real-time information sharing and inter-departmental coordination.
Addressing the participants, V.B. Kamalassan Reddy, the Director of TGiCCC, stressed the importance of seamless coordination among departments during the monsoon season and highlighted the centre’s role in receiving, verifying and disseminating real-time information from multiple sources to facilitate a prompt response. The Joint Action Teams were asked to work in close coordination, share timely updates and function as a unified response mechanism to safeguard lives and property.
The orientation included sessions on monsoon preparedness, weather forecasting and alerts, urban flooding, rescue operations, traffic management, disaster response, and the roles and responsibilities of the Joint Action Teams. The sessions were led by senior officials from the Malkajgiri and Cyberabad municipal corporations, the National Disaster Response Force, the India Meteorological Department, HYDRAA and the Fire Services Department, along with experts from the Army and other agencies.
