The Telangana government will observe ‘Health Week’ from April 6 to 11 as part of its ‘Praja Palana – Pragati Pranalika’ action plan, with a series of programmes aimed at improving public awareness and expanding access to government healthcare services.
Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha on Saturday (April 4) reviewed the schedule of events and issued directions for the effective conduct of activities across the State. The Minister called for coordinated efforts across departments and directed officials to ensure active participation from students, women and youth throughout the week.
April 6 has been designated as ‘Food Safety Focus Day’. An ‘Eat Right Walk’ will be held at Necklace Road in the morning, followed by a ‘Millet Mela’ at the Nature Cure Hospital in the afternoon, featuring around 40 stalls. The event will also include training sessions for food handlers, distribution of certificates to street food vendors and issuance of hygiene ratings. Similar walks and food registration melas have been planned across districts.
On April 7, coinciding with World Health Day, the Minister will inaugurate advanced LINAC services at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), aimed at enhancing cancer treatment facilities. He will also launch the Telangana Cancer Registry, Trauma Care Policy, Clinical Establishments Portal, and PC&PNDT and ART/Surrogacy portals. Appointment orders will be handed over to 871 doctors recruited as Assistant Professors and Civil Assistant Surgeon Specialists. The Centre of Excellence building at Institute of Mental Health (IMH) Erragadda will also be inaugurated.
April 8 will see programmes focused on maternal health, including antenatal check-ups, identification of high-risk pregnancies and awareness campaigns at the village level. A special event will be held at the Midwifery Training Institute in Bhoiguda.
On April 9, as part of efforts to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS, a ‘Red Run’ will be organised in Hyderabad, along with rallies in districts.
April 10 will be observed as ‘Homeopathy and AYUSH Day’, featuring yoga sessions and a State-level seminar at the Government Homeopathy College. Yoga demonstrations and medical camps will be conducted across districts.
The concluding day, April 11, has been designated as ‘Drug Control Regulatory Strengthening Day’. Awareness programmes on medicine safety and the risks of drug abuse will be held across Hyderabad, alongside a de-addiction treatment camp at Gandhi Hospital. Educational activities, including essay writing and quiz competitions will also be organised for students.
