A woman allegedly set a man’s wife and their infant son on fire in a village in Telangana’s Nalgonda district on Saturday after accusing him of abandoning her following his marriage, police said.

According to officials, the accused was in a relationship with the woman’s husband and, alleging that he had neglected her after marrying, went to his house on Saturday afternoon, poured petrol on the 28-year-old woman and set her ablaze, killing both the mother and child.

Her six-month-old son, who suffered burn injuries in the incident, was admitted to a government hospital here but later died during treatment.

Police said the accused was carrying petrol, a knife and chilli powder at the time of the incident.

The man was reportedly not at home when the incident took place, and police said they are investigating all aspects of the case, including any possible involvement on his part.
