Temperatures exceed 46°C in 20 Telangana districts on May 21

People in several parts of Telangana continued to experience high temperatures as 20 districts recorded maximum temperatures exceeding 46°C on Thursday (May 21, 2026) and the highest was 46.5°C. On Wednesday, over 46°C were recorded in 17 districts. 

The highest of 46.5°C in two districts (Peddapalli and Suryapet) was followed by 46.4°C in 11 districts, 46.3°C in four districts and 46.2°C in two districts and 46.1°C in one district. 

Temperatures in urban Telangana

The maximum temperature in Rangareddy was 44.9°C, 43.9°C in Medchal Malkajgiri and 43.4°C in Hyderabad. 

Hot temperatures may persist in the State as India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad Centre on Friday has forecast heatwave conditions for Saturday (May 23, 2026) as very likely in isolated pockets of 18 districts — Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda.

Besides, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) were forecast as very likely to occur at isolated places in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal.
