Holger Rune is still away from tennis, but fans just got a rare look at his life off the court. The Danish player has been recovering from a serious Achilles tendon injury he suffered at the Stockholm Open last season.

He had surgery soon after, and since then, he has stayed out of competition to focus fully on healing. While he has been sharing updates online, this time it was something different. Rune was spotted in Monaco at an AS Monaco Basket game, sitting in the stands and watching quietly. What caught people’s attention was who was with him. His girlfriend, Caroline Donzella, was by his side. The moment stood out because the couple does not appear together in public very often.

Photos from the game were shared by the basketball club’s official Instagram page, showing both of them enjoying the match. It gave fans a small but real glimpse into Rune’s personal life during a time when he is not playing. Donzella, who is based in Monaco, works as a realtor and is also active on social media. She has built a following of around 90,000 people on Instagram. Like Rune, she enjoys sports and is often seen attending Formula 1 events and skiing trips.

The two have been together since mid-2023, when they were first noticed together during Wimbledon events. Since then, they have shared parts of their relationship online, but public outings like this remain rare.

Holger Rune shares recovery update after Achilles injury as he slowly returns to tennis training

Holger Rune has been careful with his recovery, but he has started taking small steps back toward tennis. In an interview with ATPTour.com in February, he spoke honestly about how things have been going since the surgery.“Right after the injury, I really needed rest anyway,” Holger Rune said. “I was at the end of the season and ready for a vacation, just not in this way. The first two weeks in the cast went really quickly.”He explained that after those first weeks, things became more serious as rehab work increased.“I was relaxing, going to the gym a little bit, and it was nice to have time off. After that it became more intense. I never thought it would be forever.

I’m really young and healing really fast so far, which is good,” he added. Now, Rune has already stepped back onto the court, but only for light training. He is focusing on keeping his movements natural and staying connected to the game.“There’s still a lot of rehab to do, but just being back on the tennis court is really nice,” Holger Rune said. “I think it’s going to be helpful when I come back that I’ve kept the swing and everything going, because we don’t want other injuries from too much time off. So far I think we’ve used our time the right way.”For now, Holger Rune is not rushing anything. He is taking it step by step, making sure his body is ready before he returns to full competition.
