Tension erupted in Andhra Pradesh after Ambati Rambabu's remarks against Chandrababu Naidu led to protests, attacks on Ambati's office and Jogi Ramesh's house.

Tension prevailed in parts of Andhra Pradesh following alleged provocative remarks by former minister Ambati Rambabu against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, triggering protests, clashes and attacks on political properties.

The unrest began in Guntur, where Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers had erected a flex banner near the NTR statue at Gorantla, terming the alleged adulteration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) laddu ghee as a “mahapapam". Ambati Rambabu, a leader of the ruling YSR Congress Party, objected to the banner and demanded its removal, reportedly warning that he would act on his own if necessary.

On Saturday morning, after offering prayers at the Gorantla Venkateswara Swamy temple, Ambati attempted to move towards the flexi site. Anticipating trouble, police deployed heavy security and advised him not to proceed, as large numbers of Telugu Desam Party leaders and activists had gathered in the area.

Police stopped Ambati’s vehicle, during which he allegedly used abusive and vulgar language against Chandrababu Naidu. The remarks are said to have triggered a backlash, following which unidentified miscreants allegedly pelted stones and damaged furniture and vehicles at Ambati Rambabu’s office.

The comments drew sharp reactions from the TDP. Guntur district TDP president Pilli Manikyala Rao lodged a complaint with the district superintendent of police, seeking legal action against Ambati for his remarks.

Fresh Incident in Krishna District

A day after the attack on Ambati Rambabu’s office, political tensions escalated further with an alleged attack on the residence of another former minister, Jogi Ramesh, in Ibrahimpatnam.

According to police, TDP activists allegedly pelted stones at Jogi Ramesh’s house and later set it on fire, intensifying the situation. Police rushed to the spot in large numbers and tightened security to prevent further violence. Officials said Jogi Ramesh was not present at his residence at the time of the incident.

The developments come amid a series of controversial statements by leaders from both sides. Earlier, Ambati Rambabu had made objectionable remarks against Chandrababu Naidu, while Jogi Ramesh also drew criticism for allegedly making offensive comments against state minister Nara Lokesh.

Police said investigations are underway into both incidents and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in violence or damage to property.
