Loreal Sarkisian, the wife of Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian, faced a frightening emergency when welcoming their baby boy, Amays, this spring. She posted a heartfelt video on YouTube on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and described finding out she was pregnant in fall 2024, only to face serious complications.
After being put on bed rest, she was rushed into an emergency C-section when her baby’s heart rate dropped suddenly. Today, both mom and baby are healthy, and Loreal hopes her story helps other mothers feel seen and understood.

Loreal, who turned 39 this year, shared that she had given up hope on having a child. She joked, “If by the time I turn 40 I don’t have any kids, I’ll just be the best auntie ever”. When Loreal was in the hospital, doctors detected her unborn son’s heart rate had dropped and would not recover. She was rushed into surgery and went under anesthesia while the doctors delivered Amays via C-section.
Laureal woke up to a healthy baby, but admitted she felt torn, relieved he was safe, yet sad she missed moments of a natural birth. She captured both sides: “So grateful he’s alive and well… but I didn’t get that beautiful journey some women talk about”.Now, Loreal hopes that by sharing her “really hard parts,” other moms will feel safe talking about what made their pregnancies tough. She wants women to know they can admit when things don’t feel perfect and still find joy and love.
