The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd. (TGSPDCL) has launched intensive efforts to recover outstanding dues, particularly those from the bill-stopped high tension (HT) services/consumers.

As part of the initiative, the Discom is displaying notice boards in front of the premises of the bill-stopped HT consumers along with the total amount due from the consumer/company. According to Chairman and Managing Director of the utility Md. Musharraf Faruqui said that the measures have been proving effective in recovering the dues.

He explained that there were 728 bill-stopped HT connections which were not in use within the company’s service areas, comprising 15 districts including Greater Hyderabad. These connections have outstanding dues to the tune of ₹600 crore. Similarly, there were 9.19 lakh bill-stopped low tension (LT) services with their dues standing at ₹188 crore. The company has launched a special drive recently to recover dues and about ₹100 crore was collected so far.

Some people were purchasing properties linked to these services without being aware of the outstanding electricity dues. The CMD suggested those purchasing properties with electricity bill dues be cautious, as they have to clear the bills. The details of the outstanding dues and the linked properties were also shared with the Registration Department already.

The Southern Discom has about 1.11 crore connections in the domestic, agricultural, commercial (HT & LT), industrial (HT & LT), local bodies and public sector/government categories. The utility also has high dues from government connections.
