ueen Chao Khun Phra Sineenat Bilaskalayani, Royal Noble Consort of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, visited Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, offering prayers at prominent Buddhist sites as part of her pilgrimage to locations associated with the life and teachings of Lord Buddha.
During her visit, the Royal Noble Consort prayed at the Mahaparinirvana Temple, one of Buddhism’s most sacred sites, marking the place where Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana. She later proceeded to the Chaitra Mukut Vandan Sthal, where Buddhist tradition holds that the Buddha’s crown was ceremonially placed. Special prayers were performed at both locations in a solemn atmosphere, reflecting deep reverence for Buddhist heritage.
Tight security arrangements were put in place throughout the visit, with senior administrative and police officials overseeing the programme. Local authorities, including the Kasia tehsildar and the sub-divisional magistrate, were present to ensure smooth conduct, while access to the temple परिसर was regulated to avoid inconvenience to devotees.
Sadab Hussain, an archaeological officer associated with site management, said the Royal Noble Consort spent nearly two hours engaged in prayers and religious observances. “All security and administrative arrangements were ensured, and the visit remained calm and orderly," he said.
The Kushinagar visit forms part of the Royal Noble Consort’s broader spiritual journey across India. Earlier, she paid homage at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, including the revered Sri Maha Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.
Her itinerary also includes visits to the Mulagandhakuti on Vulture Peak and the Veluvana Mahavihara, regarded as the first Buddhist monastery gifted to the Buddha by King Bimbisara.
The timing of the pilgrimage is significant, as the Royal Noble Consort has been appointed by the Thai monarch as his representative for the opening ceremony of the project titled “The Royal Vessel of Dhamma: Returning to Its Sacred Origin, the Realm of Buddhahood" in Bodh Gaya. The visit highlights the enduring cultural and spiritual bonds between Thailand and India, deeply rooted in their shared Buddhist heritage.
