Days after a high-end Lamborghini allegedly ran over pedestrians in Kanpur, triggering outrage across Uttar Pradesh, another incident of reckless driving has surfaced, this time involving a black Mahindra Thar in Kushinagar’s Kasya town.

On Tuesday evening, panic gripped the Purani Fazilnagar Road area of Kasya Nagar when a speeding Thar SUV allegedly went on a rampage, ramming into multiple vehicles while attempting to evade the police. The dramatic sequence, which unfolded around 5.05pm, has been captured on CCTV and is now circulating locally.

According to eyewitnesses, two policemen on a motorcycle were chasing the Thar from Gola Bazaar towards the old Fazilnagar Road. The officers reportedly tried to stop the vehicle by knocking on its window and signaling the driver to halt. Instead of complying, the driver allegedly accelerated further, turning a routine stop into a dangerous pursuit.

Moments later, the speeding Thar crashed into an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The impact dragged the auto backward, leaving commuters stunned. In a desperate attempt to save her life, a woman seated in the auto reportedly jumped out with her infant in her arms immediately after the collision. The CCTV footage shows the woman clutching her baby and leaping to safety as chaos erupted on the road.

The Thar did not stop there. After hitting the auto, it allegedly rammed into another car parked along the roadside. Bystanders gathered as the situation spiraled, and one youth was seen hurling a stone at the fleeing SUV in an attempt to stop it. Despite the presence of police personnel at the scene, the driver managed to escape.

Kasya Station House Officer (SO) Abhinav Mishra confirmed that the matter has been taken cognisance of and legal proceedings are underway. “The case is being investigated and appropriate action will be taken. The Thar vehicle is currently absconding," he said.

The incident comes close on the heels of the Kanpur Lamborghini case, where a luxury car allegedly ran over six people, sparking debate over reckless driving and enforcement lapses in Uttar Pradesh. The back-to-back cases have once again raised concerns about road safety, policing response, and the growing menace of high-speed driving on urban and semi-urban roads.

While no fatalities were reported in the Kasya incident, the visuals of a mother jumping out of a moving auto with her infant have intensified public anger. Residents have questioned how a vehicle being chased by police could still manage to escape after causing multiple collisions.

Police officials said efforts are on to identify and trace the vehicle owner and the driver. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
