Mohamed Salah could barely hold back the tears on Sunday as his remarkable nine-year journey with Liverpool came to an emotional end.

The 33-year-old made his final appearance at Anfield in a 1-1 draw against Brentford, bringing the curtain down on one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.

There was no farewell goal for the man Liverpool fans lovingly call the “Egyptian King", but Salah still left his mark one final time. His assist for Curtis Jones turned out to be his 93rd in the Premier League — the most by any Liverpool player, moving him ahead of club legend Steven Gerrard.

When Salah was substituted in the 74th minute for Jeremie Frimpong, Anfield rose as one. The Egyptian kissed the turf before walking off to a standing ovation.

‘Inside, I’m Like A Baby’

The emotions only intensified after the final whistle.

Liverpool players and staff formed a guard of honour for Salah, who broke down in tears as he walked through it.

“I cried a lot, more than I did my whole life, but it’s very tough to leave a place like this," Salah said.

“I also cried a bit in the training ground.

“I’m not really an emotional guy — you guys don’t see that in the media that much. You always see me tough, aggressive. But inside, I’m like a baby."

Salah’s Legacy

Salah leaves Liverpool as the club’s third-highest scorer of all time with 257 goals in 442 appearances, alongside 120 assists.

Since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, he helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, a Champions League crown and eight major trophies overall under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

He also won four Premier League Golden Boots and became the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history with 193 goals.

“We lived our youth here, sharing everything from the beginning until the end," Salah said alongside departing teammate Andy Robertson.

“We wouldn’t even dream of what we have, but we did it for this club.

“We put it back where it belongs."

Salah will now turn his focus to captaining Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, though his next club remains unknown.
