Atlético partners with Netflix to promote The Immortal Man, a Peaky Blinders film -- a collaboration will reach its peak on March 14 at the Metropolitano Stadium.

The gritty, never-back-down mentality of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid has often drawn comparisons to the ruthless world of Tommy Shelby and the gang from Peaky Blinders.

Now, in a twist that almost feels scripted, football and television drama are officially crossing paths.

According to The Athletic, Atletico Madrid has partnered with Netflix to promote The Immortal Man, the upcoming film continuation of Peaky Blinders.

The movie, which follows Tommy Shelby after the events of the hit series about a fictional Birmingham crime family, is set to release on March 20.

Players Join the Shelby World

As part of the promotional campaign, several Atlético first-team players will appear in a short film tied to the movie. Among those involved are Antoine Griezmann, Jose Maria Gimenez, Ademola Lookman, Alexander Sorloth and Koke.

The club will also promote the film across its social media channels, bringing together the worlds of La Liga football and one of television’s most iconic crime dramas.

Peaky Blinders Take Over the Metropolitano

The collaboration will reach its peak during Atletico’s La Liga clash against Getafe CF on March 14 at the Metropolitano Stadium.

For the occasion, the stadium will transform into a slice of 1930s Birmingham. Atletico players will walk onto the pitch accompanied by actors portraying members of the Peaky Blinders gang — a tongue-in-cheek gesture “to ensure their safety," as the campaign puts it.

By order of the Peaky Blinders, of course.

Fans attending the match will also be treated to an immersive experience inspired by the show’s setting. The stadium will feature:

  • A Garrison Tavern-style bar, inspired by the gang’s famous pub
  • A period-themed barbershop
  • Actors distributing flatcaps and newspapers to recreate the era

Meanwhile, the stadium’s giant screens, public address system and wraparound “sky ribbon" displays will all be used to bring the Peaky Blinders atmosphere to life.

The agreement between Atletico and Netflix is currently a one-off promotional deal centred on The Immortal Man.

But such ventures aren’t entirely new territory for Atletico — who have used the club’s platform to promote movies — even placing titles like Spider-Man 2, Hellboy and Hitch on their team shirts in the past.

So, one could expect similar collaborations to follow in the future.
