This Norwegian town doesn’t follow the usual rules of daylight, for over two months, the sun simply refuses to set, creating a surreal, almost timeless environment.

There Is A Town In Norway Where The Sun Does Not Set For 69 Straight Days Every Year
For about 69 days every year, the sun doesn’t set at all in parts of northern Norway.
In towns like Tromsø, located above the Arctic Circle, daylight continues through the night during summer. Midnight doesn’t look like night, it feels more like a softer version of evening, with the sky still glowing and everything clearly visible.
This happens because of the Earth’s tilt.
During this time of year, the region is angled toward the sun, which means it never fully dips below the horizon. It may get lower in the sky, but it doesn’t disappear. The result is what’s often called the “midnight sun."
At first, it sounds calm, even beautiful.
But living with it takes some getting used to.
With no darkness at all, you wouldn’t receive the cues that help your body prepare for sleep. Sleep would be erratic, and many people would have to resort to complete darkness during the day or rigid routines just to feel some semblance of normalcy.
Even something as simple as telling the time can feel a bit disorienting when it looks like evening at midnight.
And then, just a few months after, it all changes.
During winter, there is a complete change to the other extreme, where there will be no sunrise whatsoever. Rather than having daylight continuously, there is continuous darkness with occasional dim light throughout the day.
This is what makes this area unique.
While most areas have long hours of summer sun, this area stands out through its changing patterns of light due to the location of the area on Earth.
We have always known day and night to mean certain things, with the same pattern prevailing across the globe. However, this is not always the case.
And once you see it, it changes how you think about something as simple, and as variable, as the movement of the sun.
