Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has said that an athlete needs to keep trying every single time and believe that he/she can do it, adding that there is always a next time and one should not give up.

Sindhu delivered a powerful message on resilience and perseverance during an interaction with DPS International, Gurgaon, on Tuesday, saying, “I have lost more matches than I have won at times."

In a candid fireside chat with Devyani Jaipuria, Sindhu spoke about the realities behind success, stressing that achievements don’t come overnight and are often built on repeated failures.

“I have lost more matches than I’ve won at times. But there is always a next time. You have to keep trying every single time and believe that you can do it," Sindhu said.

Reflecting on her journey, including multiple near-misses before winning World Championships gold, Sindhu admitted that there were moments of doubt along the way.

“There were moments when I thought maybe it was not meant for me. But I kept going, and that belief made all the difference," Sindhu said.

Her message to students was clear: success demands consistent effort, no matter the field.

“Hard work is the key, whether it is in studies or in sport. Nobody is born with a golden spoon," Sindhu said.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of strong support systems, with Devyani Jaipuria noting that behind every successful individual is a network of mentors, family and community backing.

Sindhu agreed, crediting her parents and coaches for supporting her through both highs and lows.

“It is very important to support children in what they want to do. Success does not come easy. Sometimes it takes years, and that is when support matters the most," Sindhu said.
