A few hours ago, as the former Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleader Megan McElaney spoke to BBC Newsbeat, she opened up about the anxiety and fear of their careers being so public.

The former Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleader Megan McElaney said, "Already being on the team, there is a little bit of an anxiety factor," says McElaney.The popular cheerleader added, "We're all perfectionists and we want to put our best foot forward in every single performance."Megan McElaney continued, "It can be difficult to not get in your head when every performance is posted online. We're really good about lifting each other up and checking in on our friends…”She continued, "Kleine is really good about it…She'll do little locker room laps and she'll be like: 'Hey, how are you doing?’” While the careers of the Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleaders seem glamourous from the outside as the women working are constantly travelling and attending high profile events amid being the most popular cheerleader group in the league, the reality is far different from what is shown.

Most of the women working as cheerleaders for the Dallas Cowboys have full time carers that they have to manage while attending the gruelling training sesions.Over the last couple of years, many women have also been public about how they have faced a difficult time managing their pesonal lives since cheerleading for the Dallas Cowboys demands extra time and effort for them.

And we ended up getting a 400% increase, which is, like, life-changing.”In season two of Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Megan McElaney had been vocal about how she had to end her relationship with her long term boyfriend since she was unable to balance her career at the team along with her personal life.While the Dallas Cowboys have mostly remained silent about these isues, thousands of women across the country hope to be a Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleader one day.
