“As of now there has been no discussion in the Congress on choosing a leader from Belagavi for appointment as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee,” Public Works Minister and KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi said in Belagavi on Friday.
He was responding to reports in a section of the media that he may be appointed the KPCC chief as incumbent D.K. Shivakumar has completed six years in the position.
“As of now, there is no such discussion. But if it [the post] comes [to me], let us all celebrate,” he said.
“We have only appealed to the party high command to end the confusion created about leadership change in the government. I am sure they will do it,” he said.
To a query, he said that the Congress will give party ticket to a member of H.Y. Meti family in Bagalkot. Bypolls will be conducted for the Bagalkot Assembly seat in the wake of the death of Meti.
“We have taken a decision to give party ticket to a member of the Meti family. The individual will be decided after consulting the family, party workers and seeking the high command clearance,” he said.
