There's liberation in it: Olivia Wilde on 'Don't Worry Darling' scoring 38%

Filmmaker and actor Olivia Wilde said the 38% Rotten Tomatoes score on her 2022 film "Don't Worry Darling" was "liberating" and led her to make her latest directorial, "The Invite"."The Invite", which released on June 26, featured Wilde alongside Seth Rogen and Penelope Cruz. It revolves around an exhausted couple, Joe (Seth Rogen) and Angela (Wilde), who invite their vibrant, upstairs neighbours, Hawk (Edward Norton) and Pina (Penelope Cruz), over for a dinner party while their tween daughter is away. The film was shot in 21 days in story order and marked her third directorial. The entire premise of the film is confined to a single San Francisco apartment, which allowed her to rehearse it like a play, according to the entertainment news outlet Variety."Every distributor wanted to take this movie to theatres, and I was adamant that we didn’t go to a streamer...From all the non-streamers, they all wanted to put it in a theatre.

That’s a really good sign for everyone," Wilde told the outlet. The filmmaker recalled the response to her film "Don't Worry Darling" and said she embraced the failure of the project, calling it liberating. The film earned USD 87.6 million at the global box office, but reviews were negative. "If you go through that, the way ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ did with a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, there’s liberation," she said."The Invite" has earned over USD 379,104 in its opening weekend at the box office after releasing in just seven theatres in New York and Los Angeles. It is produced under FilmNation Entertainment,

Annapurna

Pictures, and Permut Presentations.
