They put Islam first: Trump loyalist Laura Loomer blasts Zohran Mamdani, Ilhan Omar

Advocating that Muslims shouldn't hold public office in the United States, President Donald Trump's loyalist Laura Loomer criticised leaders like Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar, Ney York City Mayor Zohran Mandani, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Michigan Representative Rashida Talib. She said the Muslim politicians "put Islam front and centre in everything".

Stressing on the idea of "demographics are your destiny", Loomer, speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 on Saturday, said she didn't think that these politicians taking an oath on the Quran could be a loyal representative to the United States of America".

"When you have Muslims serving an office in the US — whether it's Ilhan Omar or Rashida Tlaib or Keith Ellison or Zohran Mamdani, who is now the first Muslim mayor of New York City — they put Islam front and centre in everything. They changed the rules. We had a long-standing rule in the US Congress of no head coverings, and now you have hijab in the Congress," Loomer said at the India Today Conclave.

Questioning how that was good for the US, Loomer added, "They openly support Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood. Ilhan Omar has advocated for members of the ISIS in her district in Minessota, which is the number one ISIS recruitment location in the US. Mamdani is campaigning with the co-conspirators of the 1993 World Trade Centre bombing".

The far-right activist said she thought "it should be illegal for Muslims to hold public office in the United States".

Loomer describes herself as a "proud Islamophobe" and has made several racial comments against Indians and people of Indian heritage. She had earlier opposed the H-1B visa using inflammatory rhetoric about immigrants. Her being invited to the event sparked a debate on social media. During her session, Loomer clarified her stance on the H-1B visa issue and earlier anti-India posts, some of which have now been deleted.

"We already know that Islam is an ideology that is completely incompatible not just with western values, but also with American values. If you're taking your oath on the Quran, you're pledging your allegiance to Sharia law, which believes that it is supreme to the United States Constitution," said Laura Loomer.

Sharia law is the religious, ethical, and legal framework of Islam derived from the Quran, Sunnah, and the Hadith. It acts as a comprehensive code of conduct for daily life, including personal acts, family law, and finance.

At the Conclave, Laura Loomer argued that demographic and cultural identity were central to national politics in the United States. She said, "The US is a majority white Christian country," adding that she was saying this "as a Jewish woman". She warned that Americans were "rapidly watching demographics become our destiny".

Drawing a comparison with other nations protecting their cultural identities, she said that just as people in India seek to maintain their heritage and culture and do not want their country to be "conquered, taken over or replaced", many Americans feel the same about their own national identity.

Loomer said people everywhere should advocate for their own national interests. "You're in India, you advocate for India first; I'm an American, I advocate for America first." She added that, in her view, the United States "should remain a majority white Christian country".

Laura Loomer is known for her provocative online remarks and affiliations with Trump's policies on anti-immigration. Loomer has repeatedly described herself as a "proud Islamophobe" and made anti-Muslim statements.

Loomer has expressed anti-Indian sentiments while mocking Kamala Harris's heritage in 2024 by claiming the White House would "smell like curry" if she won the Presidential election. She had referred to Indian immigrants as "third-world invaders". She has a hard anti-H1B stance, and alleges that the visa programme enables "importing of cheap labour" from nations like India.

When confronted about her anti-Indian social media posts, Loomer apologised for some of her posts, which had drawn sharp criticism for their highly racist and derogatory nature. "I should not have said some of the things I wrote in the other tweets," she said.

However, Loomer specified, "I am not going to apologise for opposing the H-1B visa programme, because my job is to stand up for American interests. Our immigration and labour laws have been exploited and abused. I will continue to fight for American workers who are struggling to find employment".
