Third fuel price rise in 10 days; petrolat Rs 99.23/litre in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Fuel prices were increased for the third time in less than 10 days, taking petrol prices in Ahmedabad close to the Rs 100-per-litre mark amid rising global crude oil prices and firm international fuel trends.

State-run oil marketing companies revised retail prices with effect from 6am on May 23.

Petrol price in Ahmedabad increased by 85 paise per litre from Rs 98.38 to Rs 99.23, while diesel price rose by 94 paise per litre from Rs 94.19 to Rs 95.13. The latest revision follows the earlier price revisions announced on May 15 and May 19.Since the first price rise on May 15, petrol prices in Ahmedabad have increased by Rs 4.72 per litre — from Rs 94.51 to Rs 99.23.

Diesel prices have gone up by Rs 4.96 per litre during the same period, increasing from Rs 90.17 to Rs 95.13.Sources cited increases in international crude oil prices and higher product prices in global markets as the primary reasons for the upward revision. With petrol now retailing above Rs 99 per litre in Ahmedabad, transporters and daily commuters are expected to feel the pinch, particularly as fuel costs continue to remain elevated within a short span of time.
