In a significant breakthrough, US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to begin a 10-day ceasefire following high-level discussions aimed at easing tensions between the two countries, adding that he had invited leaders of both countries for talks.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President said the ceasefire will begin at 5 PM EST (3:30 AM IST), framing it as a first step towards a peace process between the two sides. He further went on to claim that it is the 10th war that he has stopped.

“It has been my honour to solve 9 wars across the world, and this will be my 10th, so let’s get it done!" Trump said as he announced the caesefire.

He also noted that the two countries recently held talks in Washington, DC for the first time in over three decades, with US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, involved in the process.

Trump said Israel and Lebanon “met for the first time in 34 years" in Washington DC and that he has directed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine to make sure that the two countries achieve “lasting peace".

In a subsequent post, Trump said he would invite both leaders to Washington for further engagement.

“I will be inviting the Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, to the White House for the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983, a very long time ago," he wrote.

“Both sides want to see PEACE, and I believe that will happen, quickly!"

The development comes just days after delegations from Israel and Lebanon held discussions in Washington. The US launched the war on Iran alongside Israel on February 28. Hezbollah then pulled Lebanon into the Middle East war, firing rockets at Israel in support of its backer Tehran.

Trump’s Claims on Ending Global Wars

Trump time and again asserted that he had “settled" several wars, including the India-Pakistan following Operation Sindoor in May last year. attributing the resolution to his efforts in pursuing trade agreements with both nations.

The US President has consistently maintained that he played a pivotal role in de-escalating the conflict between India and Pakistan.

He had claimed the two nuclear-armed neighbours were on the brink of a major conflict. “Like India and Pakistan – it would have been a nuclear war in my opinion. They were really going at it," he had said. “You know, the Prime Minister of Pakistan said, ‘President Trump has saved at least 10 million lives… he got us to stop firing.’"

His remarks referred to the four-day military confrontation between India and Pakistan in May 2025 that followed New Delhi’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was launched in response to the April 22’s Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.

He had also portrayed the ceasefire as a major diplomatic success, stating that he had prevented a potential nuclear war and even envisioned the leaders of India and Pakistan dining together in peace.

India, however, has denied these claims. New Delhi has consistently maintained that the de-escalation followed established military communication channels between the two countries.

According to India’s position, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted the Indian DGMO after suffering heavy damage, following which both sides agreed to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea with effect from May 10.
