The Israeli military plans to continue its campaign against Iran for at least three more weeks, with thousands of targets still remaining, according to a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces.
Speaking to CNN, IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin said Israel still has a large number of targets it intends to strike as part of the ongoing offensive against Iran.
“We have thousands of targets ahead," Defrin said, adding that the Israeli military is prepared to continue operations at least through the Jewish holiday of Passover, which falls in about three weeks. He added that Israeli forces also have plans that extend even further beyond that period.
According to Israeli military figures, the Israeli Air Force has already carried out around 400 waves of airstrikes across western and central Iran since the campaign began on February 28. The strikes have focused on dismantling military infrastructure and targeting operatives linked to Iran’s missile, air defence and weapons production units.
Israeli officials say the joint US-Israeli campaign has already struck thousands of targets since the conflict began.
Defrin said the operation is not being guided by a strict timetable but rather by military objectives. “We are not working according to a stopwatch or timetable, but rather to achieve our goals," he said, adding that Israel aims to severely weaken the Iranian regime’s capabilities.
He also said the scale of the offensive has pushed Hezbollah to join the conflict from Lebanon. During a brief 12-day confrontation last summer, the group had largely stayed out of direct involvement.
“In June, they understood that it was a limited campaign in Iran, so they didn’t attack. Now that it’s all out, they join in," Defrin said.
Israeli officials have also indicated that military operations in Lebanon could continue even if the war with Iran ends. The IDF has begun deploying additional troops to Israel’s northern border as part of efforts to push Hezbollah fighters further away from Israeli territory.
