'Threatened to make trouble for her mother': Gujarat constable booked for raping 14-year-old girl multiple times

RAJKOT: A constable posted at Babra police station in Amreli district, Ravirajsinh Chauhan, has been booked for raping a 14-year-old girl multiple times over the past four months using the threat of making trouble for her mother.

The victim, a Class 8 student, registered a complaint at Babra police station.According to the complaint, four months ago, when the victim was going to her tuition class, Chauhan rode up on a motorcycle and asked for her phone number, saying he was a policeman and threatening to create trouble for her mother if she didn't comply. The girl gave him her mother's mobile number and Chauhan instructed her to ring him after getting home.The next day, Chauhan contacted the girl on her mother's phone and gave her his Snapchat ID for further communication. He told the victim he was renting a house near hers. He also threatened her against disclosing this communication to anybody. He then continually contacted the victim over the phone and by Snapchat messages.After a month of communication, Chauhan messaged her to come outside and then forced her onto his motorcycle.

He took her to a secluded spot and allegedly raped her. He also threatened her not to speak of it to anyone.Chauhan intercepted the victim again Thursday, when she was en route to a relative's house. He forced her to get onto his motorcycle and took her behind Babra High School where he molested her. Before he could do anything further, he got a call from the police station and left her there. Mahila PI to handle the probeThe girl then went to her relative’s house, where her mother and other relatives had been looking for her.She then told her mother Chauhan had taken her with him and that he had been sexually exploiting her for the last four months. Her mother then took her to register a complaint.Babra police registered a complaint against Chauhan for rape and related offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and for penetrative sexual assault and aggravated penetrative sexual assault under Pocso Act.After the FIR was registered, Chauhan went incommunicado. The investigation has been handed over to the inspector of the Amreli Mahila police station.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
