Three arrested for theft at a supermarket in Mulanthuruthy

Kochi: Mulanthuruthy police on Wednesday arrested three people in connection with the theft of cash and mobile phones from a supermarket in Mulanthuruthy. The arrested persons have been identified as Riyad, 26, of Mambra, Thrissur; Thanseeer, 28, and Baiju, 29, both from Kodungallur.According to police, the incident occurred last Sunday, when the accused broke the lock of the shutter at the front of the supermarket and entered the premises. They allegedly stole Rs 50,000 kept at the cash counter and office, along with two mobile phones worth around Rs 15,000, before fleeing.During interrogation, Riyad also admitted to stealing a motorcycle earlier. Police later recovered the stolen bike.Police said Riyad is an accused in 24 cases registered at various stations, including Koratty, Munambam, Chalakudy, Aluva, Poochakkal, Oonnukal, Kariyilakulangara, Ernakulam North, Angamaly, Chengamanad, Alangad, Kunnamkulam, Peramangalam, Kottakkal, Mala, Puthencruz, Muvattupuzha and Kuruppampady. Thanseeer is also accused in 24 cases registered across different police stations, while Baiju has been named an accused in 15 cases.The investigation is being led by inspector P Sangeeth and sub-inspector R Prince.
