Three arrested in connection with double murder in Veeravanallur

Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli police arrested three people in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old man and his five-year-old son on Thursday afternoon.The arrested were identified as Mahendran, alias Mahesh, 29; Kumar, alias Kokki Kumar, 23, of Moolachi; and Muthuchelvan, 29, from Oorkadu.Kalimuthu, a resident of Moolachi village, was travelling on a two-wheeler with his sons Chinnadurai, 15, and Jayaraj, 5, when a gang arrived in a car around 3pm and rammed their vehicle deliberately, causing them to fall. Jayaraj died on the spot due to the impact.After the crash, the assailants hacked Kalimuthu to death with a sickle. His head was severed and later found placed on the Karambai state highway near Kallidaikurichi.

Chinnadurai sustained fractures in the fall and was admitted to the hospital and is receiving treatment.Senior police officials said the killings could be linked to a murder that took place between 2007 and 2010.Based on a complaint from Chinnadurai, Veeravanallur police registered a case and arrested the three involved in the incident. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the remaining accused involved in the murder. Further investigation is under way.
