Bhopal: A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Kharamseda village in Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar district after three persons died while trying to rescue a bull that had fallen inside a 35-foot-deep well on Friday night.
Another villager fell unconscious as the rescue mission went awry, but survived. The deceased were identified as Rahul Yadav (34), Virendra Yadav (47) and Krishna Kumar Yadav (28).According to the police, suspected accumulation of a toxic gas, combined with depleted oxygen levels inside the deep well may have led to the tragic deaths, adding that the post-mortem report will ascertain the exact cause. The incident occurred at Ahiran Tola in Kharamseda village, after the bull fell into the well owned by one Kushwaha family.Rushing to the bull’s rescue, two of the four villagers lowered themselves into the well by ropes as the other two watched on. However, with neither of the two responding after a while, the other two villagers went into the well to look for the former. However, they, too, lost consciousness, possibly after being exposed to a toxic gas, the police said.Soon, more villagers scrambled to the scene and mounted a fresh rescue effort using the ropes.
They managed to pull all four men out before dialling the police on the 112 helpline. They were rushed to the civil hospital in Amarpatan where doctors declared three of them dead. The fourth, Ramchandra Yadav (42), was referred to Satna district hospital where he was said to be out of danger.“Our teams rushed to the spot after being informed of the incident around 10.30 pm on Friday. The four villagers were brought to the civil hospital, where three of them were declared brought dead, while another was wheeled in for treatment.
He was later shifted to Satna district hospital where he is currently out of danger,” Amarpatan police station in-charge Vijay Singh Paraste told TOI.The post-mortems of all three victims were conducted on Saturday, the IC said, adding, “Two bodies were handed over to their families for the last rites, while the relative of the third victim, who works in another state, was informed of his death. He will be here on Sunday.”A case was registered in connection with the incident, the police said.
