Three persons, including a goatherd, were killed in two separate accidents near Natrampalli on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway here on Friday.
The deceased were identified as S. Devaraj, 65, R. Santhosh, 40, and S. Ramesh, 55.
Initial inquiry revealed that in the first incident took place around noon, when a container lorry driver, V. Balakrishnan, 45, of Karur, applied sudden brakes. A car that was behind the lorry lost control and collided with it.
Devaraj, a real estate businessman, and his son Narasimha Prasad, 32, were proceeding to Hosur from Choolaimedu in Chennai in the car, driven by K. Srinivasalu, 55, of Mogappair. The lorry was proceeding to Karur from Chennai port.
In the impact, Devaraj died on the spot, while the other two persons in the car sustained injuries. Passers-by sent them to the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri.
In a separate incident, R. Santhosh, 40, of Natrampalli, was riding his two-wheeler on the highway when he lost control of his vehicle, and hit S. Ramesh, of Athurkuppam village, who was grazing his goats. In the impact, the two of them died on the spot. The accident occurred around 2 p.m.
Based on the alert, Natrampalli police inspected the spot. Separate cases were registered. Traffic was affected for nearly an hour on the route before normalcy was restored. A probe is under way.
