Three of a family injured in assault over agri land dispute

Indore: A dispute over agricultural land took a violent turn in Dewas district’s Sonkatch area on Thursday when three members of a family were allegedly assaulted with sticks and sharp-edged weapons while working on their field in Devguradia village.SP Puneet Gehlot said the assault left the three, Nirbhay Gurjar, Jitendra Gurjar and Shantilal Gurjar, with severe head injuries. They were taken to the district hospital, where they were undergoing treatment.The injured told police that they wentto their field to carry out ploughing work when a group of people allegedly confronted them and attacked them with sticks and sharp weapons. They alleged that the assailants were trying to take possession of their agricultural land and that the violence was triggered by an ongoing dispute over the property.Shantilal said he was not initially involved in the confrontation and reached the spot after learning about the dispute in an attempt to pacify both sides. However, he too was assaulted during the attack.Family members said one of the victims suffered deep wounds and required more than 20 stitches on his head. They further alleged that the attackers also damaged the tractor that wastaken to the field for farming operations.Police reached the village after being alerted about the incident and shifted the injured to the district hospital. A case was registered and an investigation was initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the clash.
