Three members of a family were allegedly stabbed to death inside their apartment in Bengaluru’s Seegehalli area, prompting a massive police search operation for the accused.

According to the police, the incident took place on Monday evening between 6 pm and 6.30 pm near Kasturinagar Main Road.

The deceased were identified as Soma Sundar (52), his wife Muthu Laxmi (48), and their elder daughter, Supriya (19).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Saidulu Adavath said the incident occurred after three people visited a flat where the accused and the family’s elder daughter had reportedly been staying together for the past two months.

The cop also added that an argument is suspected to have broken out before the three were repeatedly stabbed.

Police launched a manhunt to trace the accused and were investigating the motive behind the killings.

Meanwhile, NDTV reported that investigators suspect the family’s elder daughter, Shwetha, and her boyfriend Kenneth, who were allegedly in a live-in relationship, may have been involved in the murders.

Both are reportedly absconding.

According to the report, police were examining whether opposition from Shwetha’s parents to the relationship may have contributed to the crime.

Investigators were also probing a possible financial angle after learning that Shwetha had allegedly accumulated debts of nearly Rs 30 lakh.

Police sources were quoted as saying that frequent questions from her parents regarding the debt had led to tensions within the family.

Preliminary findings, according to the report, suggest that Muthulakshmi was alone at home when the accused allegedly arrived. Police suspect an argument followed, during which she was attacked and killed with a sharp-edged weapon.

Investigators further suspect that after the initial attack, the accused remained inside the apartment.

When Supriya returned home, she was allegedly overpowered and killed.

Somasundar was then allegedly attacked with the same weapon.

Police sources were quoted as saying that despite sustaining serious injuries, Somasundar managed to run out of the apartment and seek help before succumbing to his injuries.

Authorities were also investigating whether the murders were pre-planned and whether the accused acted together.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic teams continued to gather evidence from the crime scene.

Police said the exact sequence of events and motive behind the killings were still being verified. Further investigation was underway.
