Three government health institutions in Thrissur district have secured national quality certifications for excellence in maternal, newborn and primary healthcare. The general hospitals in Thrissur and Irinjalakuda received both the LaQshya and MusQan certifications, while the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur, was awarded the MusQan certification. Pariyaram Family Health Centre received the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) accreditation.

With the latest recognition, all hospitals in the district with Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) have now achieved MusQan certification, making Thrissur the district to attain 100% coverage in this category. The Irinjalakuda General Hospital secured a platinum badge under the LaQshya and MusQan programmes with a score of 97.73%, while the Government Medical College Hospital scored 89.57% in the MusQan assessment. Pariyaram Family Health Centre secured 96.48% to earn NQAS accreditation.

The LaQshya programme focuses on improving the quality of labour rooms and maternity operation theatres, ensuring safe childbirth, infection control and quality postnatal care. MusQan aims to enhance the quality of healthcare for newborns and children up to 12 years of age in public health facilities. The certifications are valid for three years, after which the institutions will undergo reassessment by a national evaluation team, with annual inspections by the State. Family Health Centres and Urban Primary Health Centres accredited under NQAS are eligible for an annual incentive of ₹2 lakh, while other accredited public hospitals receive incentives based on bed strength.
