Sirikonda police have arrested three residents of Chinna Godumala, a village in Ichoda mandal of Adilabad district, for allegedly assaulting two persons, including a van driver, and snatching ₹5,000 from the latter by branding them as ‘cattle smugglers’.
According to sources, a case has been registered against eight villagers of Chinna Godumala at Sirikonda police station on charges of assaulting Sk. Jalal and Robin Singh of the same mandal after tying them to a tree in their village on Thursday.
The accused allegedly tried to brand the duo as ‘cattle thieves’ and demanded ₹1 lakh as ‘fine’ in the name of ‘panchayat’.
They allegedly snatched ₹5,000 from Mr. Jalal and forcibly seized a pickup vehicle from Mr. Robin Singh, police said.
Based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Jalal’s son, the Sirikonda police on Friday arrested the main accused — S. Eshwar, Pendur Krishna and K. Suryabhan.
The police are on the lookout for the remaining accused, who are at large.
