Tigress captures historic Raisen Fort, tourism flies out of window

Bhopal: Tourism continues to remain restricted at the historic Raisen Fort in Madhya Pradesh as forest officials closely monitor a young tigress that has been staying inside the fort premises for several days and feeding on livestock, officials said.Divisional forest officer (DFO) Pratibha Shukla said the tigress is being tracked round the clock and may be shifted to a safer location if it continues to remain inside Raisen Fort for a few more days.“The tigress is young and appears to be exploring territories. At present, it is feeding on livestock inside the area and is being continuously monitored,” Shukla said.According to officials, the forest department is currently allowing the animal time to move back naturally into the forest.

However, if it continues to stay inside the fort and prolonged human-wildlife proximity persists, authorities may launch an operation to tranquilise and relocate it to prevent any possible conflict.Officials said the tigress may be shifted if it continues to remain inside the fort for another four days.Tourism restrictions imposed after the tigress’s repeated movement inside Raisen Fort remain in place as a precautionary measure. Visitor access to affected areas has been limited to ensure public safety.Forest teams are monitoring the tigress through field staff, camera surveillance and regular tracking of its movement. Officials said any final decision on relocation will depend on the animal’s behaviour over the coming days.
