The Tipra Motha on Friday (April 17, 2026) retained power in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by registering a spectacular victory, winning more than three-fourth of seats. The regional party founded and led by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya won 24 out of 28 seats, while the BJP ended with four.
The BJP’s downfall surprised the party as it was expecting a reverse result and had carried out a massive campaign for the past three months. Chief Minister Manik Saha travelled to almost all constituencies of the council and presided over hugely attended programmes.
The saffron party even managed to get two senior Tipra Motha leaders into the party and gave them nominations, but both lost. Tipra Motha leader and Forest Minister in the Dr. Manik Saha Cabinet, Animesh Debbarma, was rumoured to be finalising a deal to make his exit from the party to join the BJP.
