Tirunelveli police range launches anti-drug awareness song

Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli police range launched an AI-generated song on Friday to create awareness against drug abuse as a part of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.The song was written and directed by Rasikav Gnaniyiar of Melapalayam, an IT employee and lyricist. It titled “Maru Maaru (Reject and Change)” was released by Tirunelveli range deputy inspector general of police R Thirunavukkarasu in presence of district collector Anand Mohan and superintendent of police Vishwesh B Shastri.Venkatraman Murugan of the social media wing told TOI only the lyrics were written by humans, and other parts were done with AI tools from Meta and Google.

It features lyrics like “Drug Free TN App” and “With a single click, a life sprouts”. “We used the song to promote the mobile application ‘Drug Free TN’. The app helps the public to file a complaint related to drug abuse without revealing their identity and has a feature to request counselling for youth addicted to substances,” he said.During the event, DIG Thirunavukkarasu said the song was created using popular music formats such as rap to connect with youngsters, with the aim of instilling awareness against drug abuse. He stressed that public participation, particularly that of youth, was crucial in building a drug-free society.Superintendents of police from Tuticorin, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts were also present during the event.
