Good news for Tirupati-bound travellers — bullet train connectivity from Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad is now in the works.

Andhra Pradesh is set to become the nerve centre of South India's bullet train network, with the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) giving a favourable response to the state's proposal to route the Hyderabad-Amaravati-Chennai High Speed Corridor through the capital Amaravati. The Hyderabad-Amaravati-Chennai corridor will stretch 760.09 km across three states — with Andhra Pradesh accounting for the largest share at 518.54 km, followed by Telangana at 180.32 km and Tamil Nadu at 61.23 km. (AI image)

Eighteen stations are proposed along the Hyderabad-Amaravati-Chennai corridor. Andhra Pradesh will host nine of them, including stops at Amaravati, Guntur, Nellore and Tirupati — making the state the most station-dense stretch of the entire route. (AI image)

A separate 65-km link corridor between Chittoor and Tirupati is also under consideration, with NHSRCL greenlighting a final location survey and Detailed Project Report. Once complete, the report will be sent to the Union Railway Ministry for final approval. (AI image)

The Chittoor-Tirupati link would connect two major high-speed corridors — allowing travellers to ride bullet trains directly from Bengaluru through Chittoor and Tirupati all the way to Amaravati without a break in journey. (Local18)

Chittoor is also a key station on the 306-km Chennai-Bengaluru High Speed Corridor, which passes through Tamil Nadu (133 km), Karnataka (101 km) and Andhra Pradesh (72 km), with seven stations proposed across the three states.

Among the biggest beneficiaries of the network will be pilgrims travelling to Tirumala — millions of devotees who visit the shrine each year stand to gain access to significantly faster rail connectivity once the corridors are operational.

With surveys and DPR preparation being fast-tracked by both the Centre and the state government, Andhra Pradesh is on course to anchor South India's high-speed rail map — linking Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Amaravati in a single network for the first time.
