Tirupati will be developed as an ‘anchor hub’ for the tourism sector to harness the potential of the Rayalaseema region, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh has said.
Speaking at the Regional Investors’ Meet organised by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) on Friday, Mr. Durgesh said that investments worth ₹12,000 crore have been pumped into the tourism sector by the NDA government during the last eighteen months.
The State government has accorded industry status to the tourism sector and unveiled a new tourism policy, he said.
“Tirupati will not only be developed on the lines of religious tourism, but also as a destination for adventure and cultural tourism. Tirupati, Talakona (forest) and Nelapattu (bird sanctuary) will be developed as a single circuit to tap the latent tourism potential,” Mr. Durgesh said.
Tirupati Collector S. Venkateswar explained about the improving tourist potential of the city and the organic rise in the number of visitors to the district. He listed out the tourism projects on the anvil.
Principal Secretary (Tourism) Ajay Jain, APTDC Managing Director Amrapali Kata, Andhra Pradesh Yadava Corporation Chairman G. Narasimha Yadav, Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman P. Hariprasad, legislators Arani Srinivasulu (Tirupati), Bojjala Venkata Sudheer Reddy (Srikalahasti) and Nelavala Vijayasri (Sullurpeta) took part in the programme.
