Madras high court denies bail to three

CHENNAI: Madras high court has refused bail to three people including the owner of the shrimp processing factory in Tiruvallur district where 18 people died due to ammonia leak.Justice C Kumarappan on Thursday dismissed the bail petitions filed by M Joseph Jegan, the owner, M Mohan and Daniel Titus Singh in view of opposition from the prosecution and the fact that the probe into the incident is still in the preliminary stage.Additional public prosecutor Yogaraja Sekar submitted that 18 people had died in the incident and six others were in critical condition. He argued that granting bail at this stage would not be appropriate. The trio approached the high court after rejection of their bail applications by the Tiruvallur principal sessions court on July 2.The leak occurred in the factory on June 21 when the workers were resting in a factory accommodation.
