A 37-year-old constable, attached with the Pudupalayam police near Chengam town, was suspended on Thursday for reportedly attacking a Tasmac outlet employee recently.
The police said that based on the inquiry report, Superintendent of Police M. Sudhakar issued a suspension order against constable R. Senthil Kumar for dereliction of duty.
According to the police, the incident took place on June 15, when Senthil Kumar visited his native village of Kuppanatham near Chengam town to attend a temple festival. He, along with his friends whom he met there, went to a Tasmac outlet in the village. The constable asked the staff, N. Sankar, 52, to give him a few bottles of liquor free of cost, saying that he would pay for them later. When Sankar refused, an argument broke out between them, during which the constable reportedly hit Sankar.
Shanker was rushed to the Government Taluk Hospital in Chengam and later shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai town for treatment.
Based on an alert, the Chengam police visited him at the hospital. A case was registered. Following an inquiry, the constable was placed under suspension.
