TMC leader hides under pile of sarees to dodge arrest, police find him

In a bizarre turn of events, a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader attempted to evade the police by hiding beneath a massive pile of sarees in a clothing shop's storeroom, only to be ferreted out and taken into custody.

The unusual incident took place in Howrah’s Udaynarayanpur, and a video of the episode has since gone viral across social media platforms. The arrested individual has been identified as Brahmanand Chakraborty, a local TMC functionary.

CORNERED OVER CUT MONEY ALLEGATIONS

The drama unfolded after residents accused Chakraborty of demanding and receiving ‘cut money’ (illegal commissions) from government housing scheme funds meant for beneficiaries.

Following these serious allegations, a formal complaint was registered against him at the local police station.

Sensing imminent arrest, the TMC leader fled to a nearby clothing store and attempted to conceal himself under a thick stack of sarees in the storage room.

However, his hiding spot was quickly compromised. Police officers tracking his movements thoroughly searched the premises, uncovered him from beneath the textiles, and placed him under arrest.

TMC COUNCILLOR RETURNS RS 1 LAKH CUT MONEY

In another incident, Kakali Ghosh, a TMC councillor of the Mathabhanga Municipality, has returned money allegedly extorted from local beneficiaries.

Ghosh had been facing severe allegations of using her influence and intimidation tactics to extract lakhs of rupees from ordinary citizens over a prolonged period.

While acknowledging the refund, Ghosh attempted to shift the blame to higher local party leadership. She claimed that Trinamool Youth Congress leader Nayanjyoti Saha had pressured her into collecting the money and had also extorted separate funds using her name.

She said that the money she returned on Friday was an initial instalment and assured the affected beneficiaries that the remaining balance of the extorted money would be refunded in phases.

This development followed a string of consecutive incidents where TMC leaders have been forced to return illegal commissions, intensifying political tension across the area.
