Namakkal District Heavy Vehicle Construction Industrial Park

NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal Body Builders Association has urged the Tamil Nadu govt to revive the abandoned truck body building industrial park near Velakavundampatti. There are more than 200 truck body building units in Namakkal district, with most of them located within the city limits.

The govt had decided to set up an industrial park to address the congestion and to improve the truck body building industry.

For this purpose, the Namakkal Body Builders Association, which has 289 members, bought 53 acres of land in the Puttur panchayat area for Rs 6 crore in 2016 and handed it over to the govt. "The site was named Namakkal District Heavy Vehicle Construction Industrial Park," Periyasamy Thiyagarajan, a leading truck body building industry owner in Namakkal told TOI.

A financial allocation of Rs 13.68 crore was made for the project. Subsequently, roads and a water tank were constructed. A sub-power station was also built. "However, the truck body building units have not been relocated to the park due to lack of basic amenities. Though an overhead water tank was constructed, water connection has not been provided," he said. Namakkal MP VS Matheswaran met state industries minister T R B Rajaa and submitted a petition to revive the truck industrial park. "It is good to set up a truck industrial park. Steps should be taken to start it in the allocated area," he said.
