A total of 12 persons were injured after a bus belonging to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) rammed a house at Thamaraipakkam village near Arcot town in Ranipet on Friday.

The police said that the government bus was proceeding towards Chennai from Arani on Chittoor - Cuddalore Highway when the bus driver R. Ashok Kumar, 48, lost control of the vehicle after a two-wheeler rider suddenly crossed the stretch.

The bus driver rammed the vehicle onto a house near a bus stop in the village. The incident happened around 5.30 a.m. The house and a small shop in front of the house collapsed while bus crew and commuters were injured in the accident.

The police said the house was empty when the incident occured as the family was sitting at the backyard of the house. Immediately, passersby and other motorists rescued the injured persons and admitted them to Government Taluk Hospital in Arani town for treatment. A case was registered by Thimiri police. A probe is under way.
