TNTJ seeks law to counter HC order on animal slaughter
Ramanathapuram: The Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) organised a massive rally in Ramanathapuram on Sunday and adopted a resolution urging the state government to enact legislation to counter a recent High Court order restricting the slaughter of cows and sheep to licensed facilities. The organisation contended that the order could affect religious harmony and called for legal measures to safeguard religious practices. The rally, organised by the TNTJ’s south district unit, was also held to protest against rising incidents of sexual violence and crimes against women and children in the state. Thousands of men, women and children participated in the march from the old bus stand to the government workshop grounds.Among the resolutions passed, the organisation demanded stricter punishment for those convicted of sexual offences, including denial of bail and the death penalty in heinous cases. It also urged the government to fulfil its promise of increasing reservation for Muslims to 7 per cent in line with the recommendations of the Sachar Committee.
