French-Algerian driver Isack Hadjar is set to team up with Max Verstappen at Red Bull for the 2026 Formula One season after being handed the promotion to the RB hot-seat.
Hadjar has scored 51 points in his debut season with Racing Bulls, highlighted by a remarkable podium finish at the Dutch GP, positioning him as a strong contender for rookie of the year. Liam Lawson will partner with Arvid Lindblad at Racing Bulls, leaving Yuki Tsunoda without a seat.
Hadjar expressed his delight with his promotion to Red Bull and touched up on the opportunity to share the stage with four-time reigning champion Verstappen.
“I feel ready to go to Red Bull and I am happy and proud they feel the same," the 21-year-old said.
“It’s an awesome move, to work with the best and learn from Max is something I can’t wait for," he added.
Hadjar will join Dutchman Verstappen, who has bolstered his chances for a fifth consecutive title with his victory at the Losail Circuit in the Qatar Grand Prix, thereby delaying McLaren star Lando Norris’ hopes of securing his first World Championship title.
Verstappen has won five races since the summer break, while the rest of the field has collectively won just four.
This season has seen an impressive comeback by Verstappen, narrowing Norris’ lead in the standings from a significant 104 points after the Dutch Grand Prix to just 12 points. Initially, it seemed that the Dutchman was out of the running for his fifth consecutive crown, but his strong performance in the latter half of the season has reignited the championship race.
Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, finished second behind Verstappen, while Carlos Sainz of Williams secured the final podium spot, with Norris finishing in fourth place.
With this victory, Verstappen’s total points for the season rose to 396, while Norris leads the championship with 408 points. Piastri holds third place with 392 points, making the final race in Abu Dhabi crucial.
Norris can secure the championship if he finishes on the podium in the UAE’s capital. Meanwhile, Verstappen can clinch his fifth consecutive title by winning the race, provided Norris does not finish in the top three. Piastri also has a slim chance of becoming the champion if he wins in Abu Dhabi and Norris finishes outside the top five.
