Tom Holland will soon be back in action as Peter Parker, in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', but the actor has already shared his thoughts about who could eventually take over the mantle of the iconic role, when he decides to step away from the franchise.The actor opened up about his future as the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man during an interview with Esquire, and while he did share his hope to remain involved with the franchise, he also reflected on helping guide the next generation of actors entering the Marvel universe. Sharing his eagerness to play mentor, he said, "In the way that Robert Downey was such a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to be that person for whoever is next.
"When asked who he believes could be a worthy successor to the role, Holland said, "Owen Cooper would be awesome. Obviously, he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now."Cooper, 16, recently earned widespread acclaim for his performance in the hit Netflix limited series 'Adolescence'. He also became one of the youngest stars to sweep up all awards in the acting category for his role in the series.Holland also teased an exciting future for the Spidey franchise.
While appearing on the Spanish television programme El Hormiguero, the actor, although tight-lipped about specific plans, he hinted that Marvel is preparing to introduce fresh faces and new storylines. "All I can say is that the future of Spider-Man is really bright and we have plans to introduce really exciting new characters. How will they do that? We don’t know yet, but that’s how it will be and it will be awesome," Holland said.The upcoming 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' will mark Holland's seventh appearance as the beloved web-slinger since making his Marvel debut in 2016 with 'Avengers: Civil War'. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 31 and is among the most highly anticipated superhero releases of the year.
