As renewed scrutiny surrounds the Donald Trump administration’s handling of Jeffrey Epstein case files, the attention has turned back to US President’s long and complicated history with the late financier and convicted sex offender. From Mar-a-Lago parties and shared flights to political distancing and conspiracy theories, Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein’s ties spanned decades.

1980s To Early 2000s

Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein first crossed paths in the 1980s. By 2002, Donald Trump described Jeffrey Epstein to New York Magazine as a “terrific guy" who “likes beautiful women as much as I do and many of them are on the younger side". The two were frequently seen at the same high-society parties, including a Victoria’s Secret “Angels" event in 1997 and a 1992 NFL cheerleader party hosted by Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

According to flight logs made public during Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial, Donald Trump flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jets at least seven times between 1993 and 1997, mainly between New York and Palm Beach. His contact information also appeared in Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous “little black book."

2000-2004

Donald Trump’s private club, Mar-a-Lago, became a key location in the Jeffrey Epstein saga. Virginia Giuffre, who later became one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most vocal accusers, said she was first approached there in 2000 by Ghislaine Maxwell while reading a massage therapy manual. She was 16 at the time and Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly recruited her into Jeffrey Epstein’s network, where she was groomed and abused by wealthy men. Virginia Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025.

2004 And Beyond

Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein’s friendship soured in 2004 when they reportedly competed for a Palm Beach mansion in foreclosure. Donald Trump won the bid and the two men stopped speaking. In 2019, Donald Trump said he hadn’t talked to Jeffrey Epstein in 15 years and was “not a fan" of him. Around that same time, Palm Beach police began investigating Jeffrey Epstein following allegations of underage girls being paid for “massages" which ultimately led to Jeffrey Epstein’s 2008 plea deal in Florida.

2019

In 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was arrested by federal agents on sex trafficking charges. Days before trial, he was found dead in his New York jail cell- ruled a suicide. Donald Trump, then US President, called for a “full investigation" into Jeffrey Epstein’s network and connections.

2024–25

While campaigning in 2024, Donald Trump wavered on whether he would fully release Jeffrey Epstein-related documents if re-elected. After returning to office in 2025, he instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release some materials- like flight logs- but withheld others, including what officials described as child sexual abuse content. The US Justice Department later said that it found “no incriminating client list" and “no credible evidence" of Jeffrey Epstein blackmailing elites.
