India is the world's largest producer of mangoes, and country's export numbers- while impressive- represent only a fraction of the total harvest consumed domestically.

The mangoes are here. As India’s most beloved fruit season kicks off, orchards across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and beyond are heavy with Alphonsos, Dasheris, Langras and Chausas and the world, quite literally, cannot wait.

According to data from APEDA Agri Exchange, India exported fresh mangoes to at least seven major destinations in 2024-25, shipping out thousands of metric tonnes of the fruit to countries spanning the Middle East, South Asia, Europe and North America.

UAE Leads By A Mile

No country loves Indian mangoes quite like the UAE. With 12,897 MT imported in 2024-25, it dwarfs every other destination on the list- receiving nearly three times as much as the second-largest buyer. The large Indian diaspora in the Gulf, combined with a broader regional appetite for the fruit, makes the UAE India’s most important mango market by a significant margin.

In 2024-25, India’s mangoes travelled to seven countries across three continents, with the UAE leading the way at 12,897 MT.

UK And Nepal: An Unlikely Pairing In Second And Third

The UK comes in second at 4,367 MT, driven largely by Britain’s sizeable South Asian community and a growing mainstream appetite for premium Indian varieties like the Alphonso. Nepal, at 3,329 MT, reflects strong cultural and geographical ties- the Himalayan neighbour shares India’s love of the fruit and benefits from proximity.

America Gets a Taste

The US imported 2,138 MT, making it the fourth-largest destination. Given the scale of the Indian-American diaspora and the country’s expanding palate for exotic produce, this number is likely to grow in the years ahead.

The Gulf Sweeps Rest Of The List

Beyond the UAE, three more Gulf nations round out the top seven- Kuwait (1,260 MT), Oman (1,238 MT) and Qatar (1,194 MT). The pattern is clear: the Gulf is India’s mango heartland abroad, with a collective appetite that reflects deep cultural connections and a year-round demand for Indian produce.

India’s Mango Diplomacy Moment

India is the world’s largest producer of mangoes, and these export numbers- while impressive- represent only a fraction of the total harvest consumed domestically. What this data does tell us is that Indian mangoes have a truly global footprint, stretching from the deserts of the Gulf to the high streets of Britain to the east coast of America. As the season peaks over the coming weeks, that footprint is only going to get sweeter.
